Real-Time PCR Services and Pricing

The UDSF Staff will assist you in running your real-time PCR experiments and has optimized protocols for various types of applications using the MJ Research machines. At the moment, only limited assistance can be provided with data analysis and troubleshooting.

Each of the two machines is to be reserved by the researcher Monday through Friday for either a morning run (starting at 10:00 a.m.) or an afternoon run (2:00 p.m.). The cost of each run is $0.16/well + $7.00 setup fee for internal users (external users please call facility for pricing). The researcher will prepare the samples and set up the plate, so that it is ready to be loaded on the machine. The UDSF staff will assist in loading the plate, entering the run information and editing the cycler program.

Please note that it is the investigator's responsibility to provide samples in the appropriate plates/tubes and covered with the appropriate clear caps. Samples that are not in the correct vessels cannot be run on the real-time PCR machines.

Results of an experiment will be posted to the lab director's sequencing folder and will be accessible through the DNA Sequencing Facility web page. Software for data analysis is available at the UDSF free of charge.

After the run, the samples will be stored at the UDSF for one week only at +4°C. Any investigator interested in recovering the samples (for sequencing, subcloning or other purposes), should pick them up promptly before they get discarded. It is the investigator's responsibility to make sure that his plate/tube strips are correctly labeled.

Cancellation Policy
Any reservation can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance, to allow other researchers to prepare an experiment and take advantage of the cancellation.
Exception: reservations for the Monday afternoon runs have to be cancelled on Friday morning before 10:a.m.
The full charge will be billed if no cancellation is requested within the deadline.

Late Plate Delivery
Please be aware that the UDSF staff cannot guarantee prompt assistance with your real-time PCR experiment if the samples are delivered in an untimely fashion. If plate delivery is heavily delayed (> 30 mins), the run can be assigned to another investigator. In this case, we recommend you to contact the Facility to make sure that the machine is still available before setting up your experiment.
