| SOM Laboratory Renovations |
| |
| History: |
|
The aging physical plant of the Health Sciences Center Basic and Clinical Sciences Tower frequently no longer
meet the needs of today's scientists. Biomedical research in this new age is more informatics and instrument
laden than in the past. It is nearly impossible for an antiquated physical plant to provide the flexibility
necessary to pursue new discoveries and to optimize state-of-the-art instrumentation.
|
| Solution: |
|
The Office of Scientific Affairs has vigorously engaged many of these problems as total-renovation projects.
This enables construction trades to render the new laboratories and support spaces entirely code compliant
providing all the necessary flexibility in design and engineering to meet the needs of today's biomedical
researcher. The scale of these projects is dependent upon the initiative at hand, but project notwithstanding
the resulting renovation is both effective and efficiently meets the needs of the laboratory personnel and
instrumentation that inhabits it. Examples of projects include:
1- Molecular Cardiology Center
2- Proteomics Center
3- Long Island Cancer Center Administrative Offices
4- BST-8 Pharmacology (J. Pessin Laboratory)
5- Basic Sciences Tower Level - 7 Cancer Research Laboratory
