| Apr 2006 | Stony Brook's School of Medicine was ranked in the top 50 among medical schools for research in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2007 edition of "America's Best Graduate Schools" featured in the April 10 issue of the magazine. Key to the ranking process is total National Institute of Health (NIH) research funding awarded to each medical school, combined with average amount of those grants per full-time faculty member. These factors acccounted for 30% of the total scores. Other indicators are average undergraduate GPA and MCAT scores, acceptance rates, faculty/student ratio, total medical school enrollment, and out-of-state tuition fees. |

| Jun 2005 | Stony Brook Medical School ranked 59th among 125 medical schools according to the FY2004 data on NIH funding to medical schools and individual departments/units. Five SOM departments that were ranked nationally in the top 15 of their discipline: Biomedical Engineering (#4), Pharmacology (#9), Neurobiology & Behavior (#10), Veterinary Medicine (DLAR, #13), and Molecular Genetics & Microbiology (#14). In the top quartile (of all medical schools /units reporting), several other departments also placed very well: Dermatology (#27), Preventive Medicine (#27), Biochemistry (#28), and Orthopedics (#32). |
